Did I hear you say you're 14? I say you work on your riding skills first, and then worry about going fast. You have enough to worry about just being on a bike let alone trying to go fast on the streets on one with no driving/riding experience. And oh, by the way, just cause a bike is a cruiser, don't mean it's slow. My Vic Kingpin hauls major @ss when I want it to. Ride safe!

I do have riding experience if you've read in another thread I started a while back ago.... I've ridden dirtbikes alot of my life AND before I even drive it on the street I'm planning on taking the MSF course. Also I never quite said it was slow its just that I wasn't sure how fast it was because I didn't think it had like as much compression as a dirtbike engine, but now I think it basically is one haha (atleast the eliminator). But thanks for worrying about me anyway (if you were)
A 125cc street bike should be able to go 120kph/70mph. It'll cruise at 80kph but acceleration after that is pretty slow. If you have a headwind or a large hill (gear down and gas it) this will cut your speed considerably. You'll be using all the gears all the time, but you're learning and need gear changing practice anyway. On a larger bike you simply blip the throttle and up a hill you go. A 125 will require more efficient use of your transmission and better skill.
It's a light bike at around 250-270lb wet, so if you tip at a stop it's not a big deal. 125s are very forgiving and you certainly won't drop it. U turns are a breeze. 125cc thumpers (single cylinders), like dirt bikes, have lots of low end torque, so your initial acceleration is pretty good. Around town you should be fine but don't try to get on any 70mph highway. Any bike can get you in trouble given the wrong situation and too much speed, and a 125 is no exception. You'll have the ability to get up to 120kph in a 60kph zone and pay a hefty fine and demerit points if you get caught.
On the plus side gas mileage can be as high as 50km/l or 120mpg, depending on how you ride. $5 will get you 300km/180miles of fun. Spend the rest of your money on nice leathers.

I didn't mean it like that I just knew that they aren't as fast as sportbikes and wasn't totally sure if they are more 'race tuned' like the bikes on the track (dirtbike) though alot of them are 2 stroke....
