I think the traditional single cylinder F650GS is history. There will be a new F650GS out in '09 that is really a downgraded F800GS. It will have the same 798cc twin as the F800GS, but will be called "F650GS". Very confusing. The older 652cc single cylinder engine (as found in the "old" F650GS) is still around in the G650Xcountry, which...... by the way.......... goes directly from a 2007 to a 2009 model.

BMW doesn't really make this easy for the consumer, do they??

yeah really...You can still find the F650 GS on the BMW USA website, as a "2007" model... :frusty:
When will the new 09 be available? Does anybody know?

I was helping my wife look for a F650GS single before she bought her G650Xcountry. There were a few new old stock ones around at dealers here in the east as of four weeks ago. The folks on the forum at f650.com say the new F650GS twin is supposed to be out this fall.

F800

For what it's worth, the F800s can be adjusted to produce 34 HP rather than the normal 85. BMW says this is for inexperienced riders.

Having not read all the good advice here, I did exactly the wrong thing and bought a new F800ST as my first bike about a month and half ago. So far, I've avoided disaster though--I have about 1200 miles on it with only one stall drop resulting in a very minor scuff on the faring.
