Great thread folks! I was wondering about upgrading myself and I haven't even had my first oil change yet. I'd like to hold onto my Yamaha Virago 250 to learn and perform basic motorcycle maintenance. It's such a great feeling of accomplishment to have installed my own windshield and adjust my chain slack.

On the other hand, the reason I'd like to upgrade is for weekend trips that my husband would like to do in our region. Trailer the bikes over to PA and tour Amish country and the covered bridges or cruise down to the beaches along the DE-MD eastern shores.

With what I've read here so far, I'll also wait a year or two before trading up. Great advice; keep 'em coming! :P

I rode 250cc ninjas for 2 seasons and then got an 07 650... and yes! it was the blue that did it. to NinjaGeoff !

In terms of being blown about on the highway, basically I was continously blasted around on the highway on the 250s and still find that happening on the 650. You just get used to it.
Ya right, there are only 2 kinds of bikes: It's a Ninja... look that one's a Harley... oh there's a Ninja... Harley...Ninja...
