Fuel injected here, no warm-up needed...automatic fast idle. I generally do like this though:
Put on helmet
Start bike
Put on gloves
Get on and ride away
So it has a couple seconds to run before I start hitting the throttle.
My old carbed bike had a lot of gremlins, but I'd start it on choke, and wait until it would accept throttle input without bogging down, then drive away and slowly turn off the choke as I drove.

I'll generally give my S50 a short warmup if it's cold-cold (like overnight). Otherwise it runs a bit rough and sometimes hesitates. Rather not have it bog on me when I'm pulling out into morning-zombie cage traffic.
Roll it out, start it up, get the gear zipped and clipped, a quick check of all the lights, and ol' "Southbound" is 100% and ready to rock 'n roll. Call it 2-3 minutes.

If I don't let mine warm up - it stalls when I roll off the throttle - at least the few times I've tried it.
So, I always let it warm up. I have pants, boots on - start bike, walk to garage, put jacket, helmet, gloves on and it is ready to go.
I'd rather just get on it and go, but this isn't too bad.

Lean carburation.

HYPERR, I'll bet you're right. Both our bikes (S40 and S50) are set really lean right from the factory, supposedly to improve the gas mileage.
I could go in and do surgery on the carbs, but frankly, I'd just as soon wait a couple of minutes for the thing to warm up. I'm an enthusiastic but extremely untalented mechanic.

Some kind of telepathic connection or is it a nice steep driveway?

In warm weather, I don't need the choke. So I start up, let it idle for a minute while I gear up, then hop on and ride away.
When it's cold, I'll use the choke to start up, and let it idle while I gear up. Then I turn off the choke, get on, and ride away.
It never idles for more than a minute or so.
