I have a small head, and had a hard time getting the right helmet. Apparently my head is freakishly oval, and it took 4 helmets and $$$$ before I got it right.

Listen to Brackstone...wear that lid for a long time before plunking your cash down--or if you buy from someplace like Cycle Gear, you have 7 days to return it...in which case sit in your house with it on your head for long periods of time to make sure it won't hurt.

Helmets that felt great in the store were headsplitters after an hour or so, until I got an Arai Profile.

I had to have football and baseball helmets special ordered for me throughout high school. Finally found the HJC XXXL, bit tight at first, but it gets plenty roomy after a few hours.

I too have large melon. My wife calls it big dome syndrome. I have to get the HJC XXL. It fit and was the only one that didn't hurt after 2 minutes.

Wear that helmet for at least 1/2 an hour and anyone that tries to shoot you a dirty look just ignore them!
Do this - keeping a lid on your head for 20 to 30 minutes in the store will help ensure a correct fit. Even better, find a qualified person to fit you and buy the helmet in the store you tried it on at. You're using their resources, please support them.
