Make sure you don't mix and match your tire type... Radial front and rear, Bias Ply, the same...

jstark47 wrote:Rhadam- are you judging by just tread depth, or also by "squaring off" of the tire's profile? I've got a back tire now with only 7K on it, adequate tread depth, but it's on the short list 'cause it got more squared off than I like.
At the moment, I'm just eyeballing it. The treads are still very deep, but I haven't paid particular attention to the shape of the time.

After vacation I'll take some pics and post them and see what the thoughts are on my current tire quality.

why is that? I have never heard that before thats why I ask. I mean my front tire looks like its barely got a scratch when you look at tread depth.

Because it would be dangerous. I'm quite surprised you've never heard this before. The warning is located on virtually every tire-related website and pamphlet on the planet.

I dont read tire pamphlets nor tire websites. I brought this thread up because I have always, until now, just taken my vehicle in/bike in and gotten all tires replaced with whatever was origionally on the vehicle to begin with. Tires are something I stay away from changing myself as I know very little about them. I have no problem tearing an engine apart but dont like to mess with tires lol.

but to me 5k miles isnt enough mileage for any type of tire.

Either way it makes sense why you cant change them.

You can change or mix your tire types. but it helps to know a little about them. Your Honda came with a dunlop or a bridgestone. You get fewer miles out of a dunlop. for my riding ( cruising around and normal Interstate driving) i prefer the bridgestones. I get about 1500 miles out of them. however riding around underinflated or over loading your bike can cause premature tire wear. just as spining out and sliding to stops. so my suggestion is to check your tire pressure at least once a week. Idealy you should check before each ride.

I already do this and see no point in doing it before each ride since I ride basically every single day.

I'm running a radial on the front and a bias-ply on the back of the Concours and haven't had a problem so far. Including a trip from Kansas City to San Francisco and back, several trips to Norman OK ( I averaged 65 mph on my trip home on Friday ).
