However, get into the habit of anticipating your next gear change if it is likely that you will make one soon. Keep your toes just under or over the gear lever for a short while in readiness for the gear change so that you can make it efficiently and quickly.

As soon as the change is made though, you should return your foot to the resting postion - balls on the peg.
