The first few weeks I rode I used work style boots, but now feel much more protected in motorcycle boots.

ROFL, you'd think, right?Brackstone wrote:Not to sound crass but I'd think after an accident like that you would've already bought the bootsTower18CHI wrote:I should really get a pair of boots. If I had been wearing them when I got hit by a car, I might not have broken my ankle. My ankle got pinned between the car bumper and the bike frame.

I've got a pair of M2R Nordics. They seem pretty well made and are quite good value, considering all their motorcycle-specific features (waterproof, Kevlar, 3M reflectors, armor, etc). I used regular boots like Docs for a coupla years. I'm sure they're tough and provide a lot of abrasion resistance, but I wanted something that would be better help at keeping my ankle from getting twisted in a crash.
Motorcycle-specific boots have other benefits that might interest you. Generally they tend to have less bulky, narrower toe boxes (even more so with racing boots, less so with cruiser boots), which makes shifting feel more pleasant. I especially like the type with a zipper/velcro flap because they're less fussy to put on than lace-ups. YMMV of course.
