Just tried that. Same thing. It actually stalled with the throttle open this time.
I'm really hoping that this is just the carb, and a thorough cleaning will solve it once and for all

I'd recommend putting an inline filter between the tank and the carbs this time around. One of the big problems I see with bikes that sat around for a few years is that there is gunk throughout the fuel system. You clean the carbs and it runs better, then they get re-contaminated. It doesn't take much to clog a jet or an idle passage. Fuel filters are relatively cheap and will protect your newly cleaned carbs from anything that may still be floating around in the system.
