A lot of good tips in here.... In addition to those already stated:

Plan further ahead
Hang off the bike a little bit (use some body english to keep the bike more upright in the turns)
Be as smooth with the power, clutch & brakes as possible
and KEEP YOUR ARMS LOOSE! The tighter you grab the bars the more you restrict the front tire from doing what it does best - find traction. If you keep the tire from turning the way it wants, it's more likely to wash out... so keep your arms as loose as you possibly can.

Be SURE to stay out of the center of the lane especially at stop lights,,,really really slick from all the oil, sometimes the lane is well worn and cupped and the water will lay in it stay up by the white line if you can otherwise you could hydroplane and crash.

If you live in a very dry area that gets very little rain fall, absolutely... if you're in an area that gets a decent amount of rain fall, riding in the center is no big deal after 15 minutes or so of rain fall.

I'm from Boston and out here rain is no big deal, but in a place like L.A. for example, the roads get mentally challenged cuz there's no rain to wash all the crap away.

I find that odd because my back tire tends to kick water on the cars I pass (unintentionally of course). Plus deep puddles can mean disaster for your bike should it be deep enough to engulf low lying exhaust pipes. Also there may be artifacts underneath said puddle that may be unpleasant to ride over.
One thing you can count on: You push a man too far, and sooner or later he'll start pushing back.

Sorry when I said you never know how deep they are, I meant for the bike and what damage they can cause figure you all could read my mind. As for the cagers...still the same they can splash and blind you or cause you to slide or worse.

I just added to the deep puddle thing that garbage could be underneath (like a wooden board with a nail in it).
