Took it around the nieghborhood. As this is my first bike, I FINALLY am beginning to really understand countersteering. I wasn't able to ride when I took the BRC the first time b/c my shoulder was in a sling.

WEEEEEEEE!!!

Sweet bike, I remember checking a similar bike out at the bike show. Does it have front wheel ABS?

I've been riding it around the neighborhood, and been able to apply a lot of what I learned in class & out of reading.

One funny thing I noticed about myself - I grew up riding horses, and I'm 'cueing' my bike with my legs for turns. I counter steer too, but I tend to cue like I would a horse. I laugh at myself every time I notice it.

Congrads on the new bike,

I have had 8 NEW motorcycles in my life. I was like a 5 year old every time.
even the used ones made me happy.
Several of my new bikes I bought in the winter and they all made it home by the end of Feb...
I do not put cycles on trailers. I ride them home. as long as the temp was above 32 and the roads were dry.

I just wash them after the ride home to get the SALT OFF.

There is salt all over my bike. Is it going to ruin it and I need to clean it? I don't actually have a hose right now. The spigot blew up this winter.

Yes, it has ABS on both wheels.

I went and did some PLP today in a very gravelly parking lot (won't go there again), and turned the ABS off to see the difference. I found out I had a very heavy foot on the rear brake. It slid a lot at first. But I got it under control.

Now I just need to do lots of PLP w/o the ABS on so that I'm a better rider, and it's not the bike saving me.

Get all the time you can not using the ABS, you will be a better rider for it.
ABS is great.. your next bike may not have ABS and you will most likely have braking issues with it.

One of the things I've noticed is that it is VERY obvious when the ABS kicks in. I've done it on purpose, as well as accidentally a few times.

So while I don't always remember to turn the ABS off when I do PLP, I do know if it kicks in, and I count that as a 'failure' on the run I just did.

I got to ride my buddy's 'new' bike, an 04 750 Shadow. No issues with braking there, but I did have to learn that his bike doesn't lean like mine. :)
