so, i've got some screws that cover ports on the cylinder side of my carb. I'm guessing that is where I would input my monometer? Also. I have an adjustable screw under that that when removed looks like a long pin, and there is a spring in there too. What's that guy for?

Nope, not sure what those are for.
There should be a small hose going from one to the other to the airbox. You disconnect that hose from each carb and that's where you plug in your sync tool.
Then there should be some screws that are usually on the bottom part of the airbox side of the carb that will adjust your bleeds and let you sync the carbs.
I will try to get some pictures of a carb sync soon, I should be able to on Friday or Saturday when I re-do the carb jets on my sister's Ninja 250.
