When the Vmax came out in 1985 it was able to eat sportbikes in a straight line race. With advancements in motorcycle technology over the years the Vmax now can't even keep up with some smaller displaced sportbikes.
In my opinion the Vmax should keep its musclebike look. But I also don't believe you should have to buy aftermarket parts to fix the "so called handling issues" or to increase power. It should come in one kickbutt package right from the factory.
Its time to start eating sportbikes in the quarter mile again. More horses, larger (radial) rear tire, stronger chassis, better brakes, larger fuel tank, brighter headlight.
Again this is just my opinion. The Vmax has been my favorite bike since it came out in 1985. I plan on owning two of them the original max and the redesigned version (hopefully 2007). :D

An 04' R1 according to sport rider runs a quarter in 9.93 seconds. Over the years I've seen claims of 10.5 all the way up to motorcycle cruisers recent 11.62 on the Vmax. So I guess you could gather one of two things (or maybe both) happened in that race. Either the Vmax was not stock or the R1 rider didn't know how to race the bike.
