I have the Nady MRC-11X. For $89 dollars, I expected some limitations.
The nice thing is that it has an intercom for the Pillion and you can use the PTT button instead of VOX and not have to deal with wind noise activating it.
The bad things: The Intercom is unusable above 55mph. Just not enough volume to overcome windnoise. The unit does not come with a closed face helemt mike or a passenger mike.
The Deal Killer: The wiring in the helmet is fragile. I have broken 2 sets of wires. I had a spare set (the unit comes with an open face helmet mike and I ordered the closed face mike. Both come with a set of wires. The first set lasted about 6 rides. The second set about the same. I sent an e-mail to customer service, return receipt. They read it and never answered me. I wanted to replace the wire under the 1 year wtty. So Customer service is not good.
So, I bought an Motocomm Audio Boss AB-1M for $138.
Good things: Comes with open face mike, closed face mike, all interconnect wires. Has built in Intercom (Driver to Pillion) FM radio. Hook up for PTT (2), Headset (2),
CD/mp3 player Jack, Cell Phone Jack, FRS/GMRS radio jack. Everything but a 2 way radio. It only is guaranteed to work with a listed model FRS/GMRS (Most are motorola's) Radio. I suspect others would work, but they won't "guarantee" it)
The unit works great up to about 65 MPH with the 2 way radio. The intercom is good up to about 55. Depending on how noisy your helemt is, YMMV
Bad things: Lots of wires. I have mine in a Joe ROcket Manta Tank bag and the wires aren't an issue. Before I got the Tank bag, there seem to be a lot of wires. Hard to keep neat and untangled without a tank bag.
The PTT button is large and doesn't fit on your hand as well as the intructions like you to believe. The PTT button from my Nady is small and I have it velcroed on my left handlebar pod. It works perfectly with the Autocomm,. If I didn't have the smaller button, I would take apart the Autocom PTT switch and make a smaller housing.
Summary, I paid $146 with shipping, $40 for a pair of Motorola 5710 GRMS 5 mile range radios (came with headsets, charger, nicads, belt clips - From BJ's)
It's a good system for the price. I would recommend the Audi Boss for those looking for a fuctional, economical system.
