I know the feeling man. I still get a lot of flak for riding a cruiser in college. All the sport bikes riders talk about how slow it is, how it's an old man's bike. I usually shut them up with a point to the odometer or by doing a u-turn. Just take comfort in the fact that you're a responsible rider, and that usually means you get to keep riding.

You handled that very nicely. I’m not that polite so I bow to your way of handling a nit-wit like that. I never disrespect anything a person is riding. I’m new to riding too and my 650 V Star is just fine with me. I started out on a 250 too.

That's right man, if it's got two wheels ride it. Anyone who's bragging/slamming about engine sizes just doesn't get it.havegunjoe wrote:You handled that very nicely. My husband gets that a little bit because he rides a GS500F. He has experience but wanted something cheaper and with cheaper insurance so this was it. The speed limit is 55 on most of the roads around where live so it does the trick. I have a 88 VTR 250. It goes faster then I will ever need to go. My husband says it will do 80 just fine with him on it. I'm a noobie and I would like to make sure I live to see another day.

I was told my Ninja 250 was a girls bike. But between Brackstone and I - we put more miles on that bike than most of those 600 cc riders.
Of course now I have a bike that has more horsepower than I have IQ... And I've dropped it twice.
I'm reasonably sure I could have gone a lifetime on the 250 and never dropped it unless I hit some really unfriendly pavement.
Edited to add:
I'm actually thinking that after I get my money's worth out of this bike - maybe 5 or 10 thousand miles I'll get something smaller and nimbler. A CBR600RR or something like that with ABS. I never really had problems with the wind in the Ninja 250 and for a slightly heavier bike - I'm sure the CBR600RR would deal just fine in the wind.
Of course, there is always the MP3...

He's just some insecure little punk trying to look cool with his "real bike". What he's missing is the fact that he would probably enjoy a smaller bike to start with but his need to look cool is getting in the way. Sooner or later he will dump it or loose his license doing something stupid. Then maybe he will learn
