Sometimes I come home with an empty tank...

That being said, I've been lazy and just stood up to fuel once or twice, but at least that way any gas I spilll would just run over the seat between my legs (hopefully). Of course that's maybe 2 times out of hundreds, and I don't plan on doing it again.

As long as you wipe the gas off before it can start to dry the paint shouldn't be damaged, just make sure you get it all, it doesn't take much to make it look bad.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

I don't get it, I have to get up to get my wallet, then stick the visa (Miles Card) into the machine. It just seems natural to fill standing up. I'd hate to see what you guys do for bathroom breaks.

I like to get off and fill up making sure not to spill any fuel, stretch and take a short break before taking off. Good for another 250-300km

Gas won't damage the paint but brake fluid will.

If you allow the gas to dry on the tank it will ruin the paint. My friend has the paintjob to prove it.

Now there's a definate art to this, and the method changes slightly depending on whether you're wearing leather or textiles......

What is so difficult about filling the tank without covering it with fuel?

Thanks for that info!! I never really thought about spilling gas or fumes on me. I generally get off the bike to gas it up. Jeepers!

Cheers..

That was just wrong...

I fill mine on or off the bike but I am so picky about keeping mine clean I am OVERLY careful not to get any on the paint much less have a big "spill". I have never heard about this though so it's good to know for those I see who are careless.
