I have the first 600 miles done. I'll see how quick they get my service done.

Let me know. I'm likely coming up on that service in a few weeks

I arrived at Gail's HD after 9:30 and was out before noon. $250 if you didn't pre-pay the maintenance. Nice day to ride too.

HD maintenance prices are absurd.

??? Must be just the V-Rod, because I've found the service costs to be quite reasonable compared to other bikes. Mind you, I do most of the scheduled oil changes and such myself, saving the $75hr labour rate.

Here's a breakdown $45.66 in parts (3 oil, 1 filter, 2 sealing rings, and $8.45 shop supplies) and $180.00 in labor (2 hours @ $90.00) for a total of $234.11. I mean it sounds about right to me, after all I am at the dealers.

dang that's an expensive oil change. are you planning on taking it to them for all service or just the break-in oil changes?

btw, besides the full fairing, are there any differences between the r and cr?

Gearing is shorter on the CR. Headlamp is different. The R's don't come stock with the fairing...it's another 135 if you get it from the factory (more if you order an aftermarket part). Other than that, pretty identical.

"Absurd" as in I don't want to pay $200+ for an oil change. The price seems "normal" for motorcycle service I think. It's just the thought of a $200 oil change that bugs me.

I agree with you...servicing of HDs is reasonable. Basic maintenance is relatively easy if you have the manual and if you do all the services yourself, it really is just the one-time costs of tools, oil filters and fluids and your time. You could get your 4 quarts of AMSoil and a filter for $50-60 (i love AMSoil...makes the bikes run cooler). $60 for a (disclaimer: only IMO) better oil vs. $200 for HD Syn 3 and labor costs....Makes me cringe.

Vrod service I think is priced closer to Sportster services...$300 for the 1000 mile maintenance on the Vrod (oil change and bike look over). I would have done it myself but since I didn't buy it new, I wanted them to do a complete check of the fasteners and other "little" things that I don't have the tools to check up on (i.e., I don't have a torque wrench at my disposal). But now that the bike checked out fine, I'll be doing fluid changes myself as well.

Tires are a different story. The rear 240 stock tire is amost $300 after taxes (quoted from dealer).

That labor charge relative to the parts, while not completely outrageous based on the "normalcy of it," makes me sick.

So I keep piling the miles up. This morning, while waiting to warm up, my Engine Check light came on so I'm back out at the dealers geting it checked.

Er - pretty sure they do more than just change the oil for the 600 mile service. It takes time to go over the bike and make sure everything still looks good, and typically costs a fair amount even if it's not an HD when you go to a dealer. I'd gather those 2 hours of labor went to more than just changing the oil.
