It's not "correct" if you are not getting the result you wanted. Just that simple. If you want to lean more, press more on the inside grip.

What is happening when you countersteer is this:

When pushing on the right handlebar to turn right, the contact patch on the front tire moves causing the bike to actually "fall" to the right. This is what is making you lean into the turn. The same happens when pushing to the left.

If you don't do it right, you don't turn.
