I've always been curious about this. (Note: I'm from Asia, so I guess we're used to rampant lane splitting). I'm just trying to understand the attitude to lane splitting from the point of view of a North American.
Of course people would feel envious. Before I learned to ride, I envied riders who lane split in traffic (and I still do, if I happen to be stuck in a car). But I don't get the resentment. I guess most people don't realize that lane splitting helps lessen traffic, since every rider on a bike represents one less car on the road (although that argument doesn't hold up as well in Asia, I admit).

North Americans are too petty and self-centered to see lane splitting as a way to lessen traffic or ease congestion. They only see someone else 'beating' them while playing the traffic game, and they can't abide that.
If they see anything at all, the level of attention paid to driving by most people on the road is pathetic.....

+1....heck....we can barely make lane changes here without someone speeding up to close the gap to prevent you from getting into the next lane.

1+ on all your points. I especially love the jokers that have to overtake you, especially in the rain, then slow right down. Arseholes the lot of them.

Just as we say we are entitled to our whole lane...so are the cars....
Agreed. Add that with loud pipes, squidly stunts and other inappropriate riding styles and we will doubtlessly raise the level of motorcycle hatred from non-riders.
The fact of the matter is simple, this is an extremely selfish society and most are in a race to outdo the next person. If it were legal, most cagers would run motorcycles off the road or worse, kill them. It's the legalities which hinder them from doing so. Get used to it people, we are the minorities. Ride as if they are out to kill you.
Someone correct me, but I continuously read about lane splitting being legal in CA but to my understanding, it's not legal, but simply overlooked and allowed since the authorities realize it eases on traffic congestion.

Don't know about other provinces but Ontario is zero alcohol in the blood regardless of age. Getting caught could reset your waiting period to obtain your full license. Even if you have your full G license for cages no restrictions. If you have an M1 or M2 designation on your license and you are driving your cage you will lose both of your licenses. Even though you are under the legal limit for a normal cage license level.

It has been shown that when done responsibly, lane splitting is safer for the biker and helps ease congestion for everyone. The people who complained about the signs are just dipweeds who are more selfish than squids what with their reckless multi-tasking. Besides cagers only notice riders when they do something wrong and dismiss/ oblivious to those that are riding safely.
Most Americans are spoiled douchebags plain and simple. Operating a vehicle is still a privilege and damn illegals make things worse.

as long as you've got a clear visor to dazzle them with those baby blues, you can go anywhere you want!
