I was wondering if other people have done this? Do you think it's wise or unwise? What gear should a beginner buy, without actually having a bike? Should a Beginner even buy Gear without a Bike?
I just got my permit, and I'm planing on getting my gear first.
1) If I buy a used bike I already have the gear to wear so I can test ride the bike.
2) If your buying a new bike the total cost will be $500 to $1000 less because you already got your gear. And you can test ride the bike.

I took the BRC first and then bought a helmet, gloves, and jacket. I had work boots already. Then I bought a bike. Unfortunately, the first set of gear that I bought were all sized wrong(even with research and reading, I still messed it up). I've since replaced the helmet, I still use the jacket since it's not that bad but I did buy another jacket too, and I still use the gloves, but I'm going to purchase a new set soon (wow...that's a run-on sentence). I've also purchased a pair of pants which were the only things I got right on the first try.

In case you weren't aware, most dealerships and owners don't let you test ride the bike you're going to buy. Some have a demo fleet at the dealer for certain models (BMW, Harley, Victory and if you're lucky Ducati). Most others do not.

I wasn't sure if dealers would let you testdrive. I've seen people ride bikes down a dead end street and back from Velocity Powersports in Summerville so I just assumed. I do know they let people test ride Spyders.
As for owners, one of my friends who got a used bike was able to try it out first with no problems.
I guess each persion, shop and situation is different.

If you see a bargin, go for it. You don't have to have everything purchased in advance of buying a bike but you will need some gear for the MSC so why not have what fits.

Why not? Buy what you like when you find it (on your own time), don't wait to do it all at once and then be pressured into buying everything in a rush without taking the time to make sure it fits and that you like it.

It is really ok to buy first your gear before having a bike, and these gear are really important for your safety.
