Heat aside, Charleston is a great place to ride. Lots of history and scenery.
The best time of year is Spring and Fall with 70 - 80 degree weather. Even the winter is pleasing with the temps in the 40s - 60s.
I would say the worst time would be late May - early September. Low to upper 90s and humidity. The humidity is what kills you. But if your by the cost, the cool breeze from the water is great.

I have a very good one at home which I will try to get the name of for you. It is padded not armored and well vented. Even then when it gets above 80 and you are not moving it will be warm. I don’t know what to tell you in S.C., I don’t think anything will be comfortable in that humidity and heat.

As a Myrtle Beach native, I understand what you're talking about. I've found a Joe Rocket Phoenix in white to be the coolest out there.

As a native South Carolinian who lived in Baltimore for five years, I am uniquely qualified to address that assertion.

And, they are not. The difference is that Bawlamer will have periods of nasty muggy but there will be interludes of decent. In South Carolina, you can count on nonstop nasty muggy from June to September.

If the summers there are worse than Baltimore I want some ac. That and my obviously failed attempt at being funny.

I guess I should ask this next question on another thread, but it is related.

The armor, is the fome padding really work? It seems so spongy and flimsy. Wouldn't something harder be better?

Since I am a South Carolinian who in addition to living in Baltimore, also lived in Virginia for three years, I am qualified to weigh in on this one as well!
