Congrats! For such a great machine, the Hexhead R is such a criminally underrated bike.
I'm surprised at what you said about the handling, though. I assumed it wouldn't be as nimble as your ST, but good to know that it does the twisties well.

so how's the gas mileage like? I know BMW always tries to make bikes that get 45+ MPG... for their advertising at least.
I'm gonna take a guess and say that the Duolever fork is responsible for the nimble handling huh.

I'm getting mid 40s. I got mid 50s on my F800ST, but I can live with that.
I think it's a combination of the suspension and the nice balance that comes from the boxer configuration. It might be the tires too. I had Michelin Pilot Road 2s on my F800, but this one has Metzelers.
Yesterday I did some parking lot practice to prepare to retake the ERC. I did find it much harder to do cone weaves on the R than the F. I suspect that's because the instruments, windscreen, and headlight are attached to the fork and thus turn, while they did not on the F.

Interesting. I found it slow speed maneuvers easier on my R than on my F (although this is comparing an R1150R to an F650 single), possibly because - as you said - the boxer configuration made for better balance. I found U-turns harder though; longer wheelbase/narrower steering lock + my own lack of confidence.

Ahh cool, thanks for that mileage info. I always planned on getting one of the BMW Adventure bikes as an addition to whatever bike I may have at the time.

Congratz on the new Hexhead!

I know what you mean, I've only got 55000+ kilometers on my 2.5 year old Venture.
( approx. 34100 miles)
