I was just perusing the main TMW page and saw these stats:

2011 Motorcycle Model Guide - As Released, 30 manufacturers

2010 Motorcycle Model Guide - 473 models, 30 manufacturers

2009 Motorcycle Model Guide - 642 models, 29 manufacturers

2008 Motorcycle Model Guide - 405 models, 20 manufacturers

What I see is that manufacturers in general (not just Honda) went ape and put out too many models in 2009 as a result of the boom times, but then in 2010 reduced their stock (and apparently saw sales dramatically drop at the same time).

I guess people still haven't figured out that booms don't last forever...

Brings to mind the Honda/Yamaha war during the Japanes Bike super boom of the 70s/80s and the super duper overproduction resulting in warehouses full of unsold brand new bikes being sold at sometimes below half of original MSRP. It must've been nice to be a buyer back then.

I'll be buying in a year... maybe I'll get lucky and buy at 1/2 MSRP... :rocking:
