at least we are starting to see a few more standards in the US market. the honda 599 and 919 come to mind in addition to the SV650 and FZ6. Problem is that of those four the only one remotely suited to a beginner is the SV.
We are getting some of the more powerful standards but not the entry level ones.
The ER-6 would likely sell pretty well here if marketed as an entry level bike and sold at a reasonable price (kinda like what suzuki does with the SV, hard to beat it at 5500 for a new one).
and I do agree that bike is sweet looking. the ER-5 looks pretty good as well. Basicaly like a naked ninja

I noticed this bike will c0ome to the US as a faired Ninja 650.
doesn't look as cool as the europeon one but hey looks like a nice new entry bike

Cool - does anyone have an idea how hard it would be to convert it into the more naked looking Euro model.?

looks like it should be as simple as getting a er-6n headlight assembly. and take the entire fairing off the ninja 650. the ninja 650 looks pretty much like an er-6n with a full fairing. this bike is europe is called the er-6s

I've been reading the euro website for this bike, seems like they have it marketed for beginners as well as experienced riders. So would that mean that the US version, Ninja 650R, which I believe is being released in Feb 06, would be a good bike for someone fresh off their MSF course?

Yes, I think the N.A. version would be good starter bike. Keep in mind that dropping a new bike still sucks, even if it is rider-friendly. If you can live with that, go for it. They are nice bikes from what I can see so far. Nothing new-and-techy to break down and cuase problems in a first year production run. Should be a nice little bike.

Hope I am not repeating too much.
The ER-6n should not be available in the states, but should be similar (same-ish) to the Ninja 650.
We were looking at these (Ninja version) because they are geared toward short riders. The wife is 5'3", and street bikes for her height are few. The Ninja 650 seemed no shorter than anything else. The Ninja 500R is (same frame as the Ninja 250, perhaps?).
I think the ER-6n is very cool looking. Too bad the bike industry in the states does not realize how many of us would like a naked street bike!
