Sorry for the late welcome! I'm not on here nearly enough anymore. I'm about 2 1/2 hours North of you near Erie. I have a 2006 S50 intruder and have loved it. It was definitely a good bike to learn on. I added a "touring" seat, windshield, hand guards, backrest and saddle bags to mine through the years. My only complaints after all these years are that my wife isn't comfortable for more than about 50 miles and, I start to feel cramped on it after about 150. My discomfort could probably be solved with a set of highway bars but, I've just never found anything I liked.
The largest maintenance I've had to have on it are new tires, brakes and a battery which are all relatively inexpensive. Just keep up on the routine maintenance and safety checks before you head out and you shouldn't have anything to worry about!
I hope you enjoy the bike for many years to come!
