..some sites offer a one day intermediate or skills refresher course on the site's bikes.
I have searched, and sadly, there are only 2 choices here, BRC or ERC, nothing in between
I'm not in a small town, and there are a lot of cycle shops and riders here, but a complete derth of anything like an intermediate or skills refresher course.

Good to meet ya! I'm also a new rider and have a Honda Rebel 250. Thus far, I'm am extremely happy with it. It's lightweight and I feel I can control the bike. Folks on here have also told me that the Rebel is quite a forgiving bike for the learning. I love it.

lady - some of the brc places also offer private instruction. It might be worth it for an hour or two of individualized instruction... sometimes you can ask the instructors as well, and they might be interested in that...

Welcome to TMW.
Whether you decide on a Vulcan 500 or a V-Star 650, the more important things is the fit.
After a couple of weeks you won't even notice the 50 pounds difference. The body learns the balance and the leverage quite quickly.
Whichever you choose.....I bet you'll love it.
