I think the practise is referred to as self-inflicted darwinism.

least you and i can agree on something. if you dont want to wear a helmet its your own business. shouldnt be treated or thought of any differently than someone with a helmet.

Why you should wear a helmet

All I'm saying is that the brain is one of the most sensitive and delicate peices of your body. It has a consistancy on par with stiff pudding, and the skull is not designed to handle high speed impact. A 3 footfall onto concrete from a sitting position is enough to cause permanent brain damage. And you're telling me that you're willing to risk a motorcycle accident without wearing something to keep your brain safe? Sounds like self induced gene pool cleaning.

Please, for your loved ones, wear a helmet. To be honest, and not to sound mean, but Zootech, you have 3 wonderful little kids who only have you to depend on. I think you have an obligation to them if not yourself to try to keep yourself safe. Though I think you wear a helmet anyways.

Yeah, I'm aware of the dangers and of my obligations. Thing is, helmets have the same effect on motorcycling as condoms have on sex (I have three kids, remember) - meaning, they take all the good sensations out of it. Riding with and without is the difference between night and day. And other than riding without a helmet, I have no life-threatening vices to speak of. I don't smoke, I rarely drink, and I take no controlled substances, so motorcycilng is essentially my only stress relief...something that every single parent knows is of the utmost importance.

I do wear my helmet in spring and fall, but only to keep my head warm.

First off, I don't care if someone else wears a helmet or not, (no skin off my nose.... your milage may vary  ), if you live someplace with the option, it's up to you to make that call.

But.... how's that workin' out for you? Pretty sure there's something to be gleaned here.....

On that same token, I ain't ready for kids and I ain't ready to die. It's all about safety!

Uhoh... the subject is slowly derailing....

I gave a guy the helmet tap followed by pointing my thumb over my shoulder, because I had just rounded a corner to see TWO cop cars parked on the side of the road. Very glad I wasn' t speeding!

He didn't get it. He looked back at his girl and seemed confused. I think maybe he thought i was saying there's something wrong with her helmet.

Oh well I tried!
