Most of my inspired changes didn't occur overnight. Lets face it, good gear costs money and this isn't the economy for throwing down a few hundred left and right.

I take a two step approach. First, I talk to people about thier gear and gear choices. By linking that to mine and talking about fun things (what I've seen running rescue and in the hospital) starts them thinking about their NEXT jacket. Second I refuse to go riding with friends that have poor gear selections. I actually don't do many group rides in general but people like the roads/destinations I find and I lend out SMH10's during the ride for more fun.

On another note I'm a gear mean with a few different selections for each bike to cover seasons/conditions. I tend to have a few extra pieces to lend to friends to try them out over what they are currently wearing.

At best I've convinced 50% of people to switch gear on their next selection. Students from my classes tend to have a higher percentage since I can get them discounts from our sponsors and get them before they make a purchase.

This is something we as a safety campaign work on all the time.

Since I've got a geeky and embarassing neon yellow jacket, more like a cross between a traffic aide worker, a fireman, and an explosion in a highlighter factory.
