On a side note. I looked to see what issues the CB500F might have. Horsepower is quite respectable at 47hp (see note below) and while the CB500F is the lightest of the 3 new 500's, it is still 420lbs, which to me, seems a little heavy. A 1980 CB400 (all steel frame) was 400lbs, and even my 2013 Moto Guzzi 750cc comes in at just 395lbs. So I am not sure were the weight is (too heavy engine?), surely it can't be the frame.

NOTE: The 47hp is not an official specification so take it as a grain of salt and there is no word on the torque or MPG figures yet. I would guess this engine to be more in the lower 40hp myself as the 700cc Honda has is just 40hp.

Actually I just realized you can change your vote.

I haven't changed it but now I know you can.

The problem is, due to the idiosyncracy of this voting system, if I give it a fail instead of uncool, it increases the chance of this bike getting a higher rating. :frusty:

Mike,

I'm not surprised by the HP rating suggested. My 1980 550 in line 4 is rated at the same.
If anything this new engine could be a little higher.

Hmmm, I like! Give it a full fairing option to make it look like a CBR and I think it'd sell very well for those who want a good beginner bike but are caught up on looks.

Ask and you shall receive.

They also have the "adventure" flavor

Hmmmm I'm thinking the CB500R is going to sell very well amongst new and older riders.

Ah, but don't forget nothing comes without a cost. The CBR500R is an extra $600 ($5399 vs $5999... about 11% more in total price) and 5lbs more of plastic, which would be more expensive to replace if needed. But yes, for those that like the look, it's a no-brainer.

I like the idea of a new, 500cc standard, congrats to Honda for doing that. I'm not in love with the looks of this particular model, but I like the concept. So it misses Awesome for me, but still gets a solid Cool vote.

Same here. I think producing a whole line of practical, affordable, versatile bikes is brilliant. But since there's already a "sporty" variant and an "adventurey" variant, why not just make the naked standard a real naked standard? All that plastic kind of misses the point of a stripped down, simple, elemental motorcycle. Still deserves a cool vote anyway.

I don't know why they just couldn't make it a naked standard instead of putting on those mfugly and useless plastics. If it was a true naked standard, I would have given it a cool. If they made it a retro standard like the GB500, I would have given it an awesome. But because of the hideous mfugly plastic that serve no purpose and they botched what would've been a great idea, I voted fail.
