From what I am reading, go look at a BMW R1200R, best of a bit of everything, street riding a breeze with that twin, lots of low down grunt, 3rd and 4th is just manic. Then you can go long distance and tour and if you want to get your knee down a bit it will out ride the super sports on the corners. Comfy seating and sporty for both rider and pillion.

I say go with the Buell. I love that bike and the Rotax engines are great.

You seem to be considering a lot of faired literbikes, but riding position is a concern.
How about the Kawasaki Ninja 1000? More comfortable than the liter-class supersports, it's almost a sport tourer (you can even option it up with hard panniers).

I am totally biaised but what about liter V-Strom or Versys ?
I just got a Versys. Engine packs good enough power and position is just perfect...

I'm leaning toward the DL1000 VStrom right now...I think it's a better looking bike than the Versys, but the biggest draw for me is the $3000 price difference in Canada...Suzuki still has the right combo for me. Just trying to let go of the MT-01 so that I can move on...
Later.

I just test drove a Harley Road King. The 811 pounds didn't seem that bad, and if you keep the factory mufflers, the neighbors probably won't call 911.

Dilemma - really would like a new (or gently used) bike, for my XX is starting to fall apart with almost 75K miles..
Honda loyal (well maybe) - road tested the VFR1200F - don't like the vibration, price, shaft drive, looks..

Vibration? Never ever noticed that with mine. I did notice the shaft drive though - out on tour when I can head straight to the pub at the end of the day and not stop to lube the chain.

The choice is obvious.....probably have a bike by now though.
Honda Loyal , immensely powerful, ultra smooth , reasonable riding position chain drive equals only one thing-- CB1100XX Blackbird. Find a nice low mileage one for around $5K.
They are SUPERB motorcycles.....very good in every respect and it seems to check all of the OP's boxes.
