I'm coming to Vancouver for a long weekend the last weekend in September. Is there any cool bike shows or any motorcycle exhibits I should check out?

Well I know of two events happening that weekend...

The third annual D&B Custom, Show and Shine

Lots of bikes, tons of prizes, burnout contest, dyno, wet T-Shirt contest , beer garden...

Detail: Once again, the popular ride on the Sea to Sky Highway is happening. All motorcyclists and all brands are welcome to attend! Free registration starts at 9:30 a.m. and the ride departs to the Whistler Village at 10:30 a.m. There will be a 50/50 draw which supports the British Columbia Coalition of Motorcyclists (BCCOM).





But if you happen to be in the area on the first weekend in Oct, there is always the 27th annual Vancouver Toy Run

Hmmm, you could always send her for a spa treatment at one of the local day spas, that would give you a fair bit of free time...

It would never work - she likes bikes as much as I do. For some reason she's not into the wet t-shirt contests though. Go figure...

Hey cb,

If memory serves, Canuck is aka Canadian and it came about back when a bunch of young guys (4 main dudes) kinda exploded onto the European World Cup ski scene, circa 1970's, that until they showed up, had been dominated by the Europeans. Apparently they were pretty fearless and kamikaze and just flew down those hills. Some newspaper headlined them the Crazy Canuck and that name stuck. Now we're all Canucks and say "eh" a lot. I don't think it offends anyone (correct me if I'm wrong).

And I think I got all those double-spaces in after the periods.

Thank you KarateChick - I actually looked it up myself today. It's origin might be older than you think.... From Random House Dictionary -

The Random House Dictionary notes that: "The term Canuck is first recorded about 1835 as an Americanism, originally referring specifically to a French Canadian. This was probably the original meaning, though in Canada and other countries, Canuck now more often refers to any Canadian."

Also, they said,

The use of "Canuck" parallels that of some other potentially offensive nicknames, that is, when used by the people it names — Canadians in this case — it is usually acceptable. But when used by an outsider — in this case particularly American strangers — it can be easily misinterpreted and deemed as insulting one's heritage. Although it is not as severe as most ethnic slurs, some consider it one.

So, apparently, YOU can say that you are a Canuck, but I cannot. That is if you are a Canadian that is.

I've never taken it as derogatory. Vancouver wouldn't name there hockey team the Canucks if it were!

I guess it's kinda like calling Americans, Yankees.
