Respect from cage drivers
A mixed bag of goodies here. Some blond chick in an SUV Beemer waved me in front of her on a merge the other day. She even waved afterward, all while holding that cell phone. California girls can multitask, and this is a good thing when they're in a friendly mood.
On the other hand this Russian a-hole saw me, didn't care, then blithly cut me off recently. I could tell he was Russian by the big RUS sticker on his car, plus the vintage 1978 KGB issue haircut. I wheeled around and tossed my C-4-packed Zippo into his lap, taking him out in mid scowl...Naw, I didn't, but I thought about it.

Yesterday I had to drive from school up to a friends house (a pretty good distance) I was cruising along in the car pool lane at about 80, thinking that no one would tailgate at that speed. Boy was I wrong, this woman is tailgating me, but instead of getting pissed off I started to go 90 thinking surely this has to be fast enough for her. Not really she closes the distance withing one car length. so this is when I really get pissed off. I close the throttle until my speed drops below 60. Screw her she can go around me. She swerves agressively and cuts me off after passing me. The she stand on her brakes locking up on the freeway. I swerve and manage to give her the you are a b***h hand signal. I just don't understand these f*****g people.

Yesterday on my ride home from Calgary, I had an older lady in a 80's Caprice wagon storm past me in my lane. This was a 2 lane hiway with no other traffic visible for miles in either direction(I hate Alberta roads
), and she wouldn't even move over the white line to go around me as I rode the speed limit looking at my map on the tankbag. You think passing me in the same lane would have been enough of a thrill for her, but she had to make sure to lay on the horn as she passed.....
.... this brought out my evil twin and I passed her back in the other lane... and re-adjusted her mirror with my foot. She now has a great view of the road under her front wheel, if she leans out the window and bends down to look in the mirror....
In urban settings, I tend to ride 'in your face'. I make sure the cages around me know I'm there by staying out of thier blind spots and making a piont to look them in the eyes while as close to thier window as safely(?) possible, crossing from one side of my lane to the other to introduce myself to all parties concerned. For tailgaters, I just drop the hammer and leave them far enough behind to feel comfortable.

No Witnesses....

I get pissed off when people tailgate too. But part of the problem is that people in the far left lane won't move over for faster traffic to pass. You thought there wouldn't be anyone faster than you in that lane, but there was. I hate to say it, but you're part of the problem. Not to excuse tailgaters, but if people on the far left yielded to faster traffic - no matter how fast it is, that's up to law enforcement, not you - then we'd all have an easier commute. Instead, people get mad and put the brakes on like you did causing a chain reaction a couple miles back in crowded traffic.Bike Phreak wrote:Not really she closes the distance withing one car length. so this is when I really get pissed off.
This is assuming you carpool lane is on the left like it is in Wa.

In So. Cal, on FWY, lane spiliting, 50% of cager give me room, 45% stay on their lanes but big enough for me to get in only 5% that stay close to divided line and a few even intentionally block my way (one time I notice that license plate is from out of state, another time drivers were busy with their cell phone).
On mountain, in a group ride quite often cagers will move or stop to let our group pass.
