Re: Discuss: What are your weather limits for riding?
Generally anywhere above freezing I take the bike to work and since she gets to ride in back the wife comes along. If the roads are clear.
I avoid snow like the plague because the ST 1100 is a lot of bike to pick up if you lay it down.
I did ride twice in January for short distances (in Toronto ) but under both those conditions. Too snowy and cold so far in February.
Mild rain is not an issue with the fairings I have. When there's a chance of a T-storm I always take my chances. Because if you can't get wet you shouldn't be on a bike anyway.
I can't wait for Spring.

Over the years I've ridden in a foot of snow, torrential rain, temperatures around 120 and winds that throw you two lanes over. I hate the wind and won’t ride in snow again ever. I once rode an hour and a half at 19*f and don’t want to do that again. I’m good with the rest. Anytime you travel you have to be prepared for just about anything.

Anyone out there paranoid about riding in thunderstorms? I'm afraid to be struck by lightning when there aren't many trees or buildings around.

I am absolutely afraid of thunderstorms. Although it's probably statistically unlikely, if you were to be struck by lightning there is no protection. Contrary to popular belief, tires will not insulate lightning. It's already traveled several thousand feet through an insulator. As far as weather limits, currently heat is my big problem. It's 100+ here in the summer, and C10s are very hot rides. Once summer gets in full swing I rarely ride. Love riding in rain as long as I'm not going to work. Lower limit on temps are about 20F. Rode in hail once, don't recommend it.

I've ridden in most conditions...some just by circumstance. Like the time it snowed ....
I prefer dry and clear and moderate temperatures..(who doesn't).....however.... I'll ride in a rainstorm if I have to. I won't necessarily choose to go riding in bad conditions...but if it is essential I carry on to make it home...I will.

-5C to +40C...as long as there is no ice on the road, I wanna ride!
Would have been nice to have a mesh jacket on the 40C day...like riding in an oven

Yeah I have that problem now. My mesh jacket doesn't fit anymore, and it's often 95+ here. Miserable in a full textile jacket.

Above freezing, and above freezing the night before. (Tired of coming around a curve and hitting a shady spot that has ice....) If a local ride, at least dry when I start out, but when out on an extended trip, then it's necessary to ride regardless of rain. Prefer not to ride in heavy fog.
