I think I saw that same woman in a parking lot around here!! It's so sad and true. There should be different training provided for vehicles of that size. During the winter season, the majority of vehicles around here that get stuck or turned over in the ditches are SUVs. No joke. The drivers believe themselves to be 100% safe, so they tailgate going too fast, and then - BLAMMO!! They bullet right off the road, usally taking out a cage or two with them.

I seem to remember that one manufacturer was going to start up a informational type class for the new SUV purchasers through the dealerships. Not sure if that will actually happen, and it certainly wouldn't be a requirement for ownership - but it should.

And the winter is funny around here, trucks, SUVs, american boat cars but almost never little japanese traps are on the side of the highway in the winter. i swear, the looks on peoples faces when you pass them doing 45 on the highway when their in there 2 ton 4WD SUV doing 30 thinking they're hot "poo poo" cause they got a big "O Ring" vehicle and realize that my little FWD car is safer then theirs going faster is priceless.

Though, i do admit, my car can't make it over 2 ft snow banks when your driveway get's plowed in. Or do donuts on the lawn in the winter.

I think some people just want to pass laws.

They're all for it until the law that gets passed affects them.

I'm actually quite fearful of the soccer-moms who drive their tahoes and navigators whilst talking on the cellphone in my part of town. I'm positive one is going to take me out one of these days either in my car or on my bike. I've been led to believe that talking on a phone while driving is comparable to driving drunk. Not to mention that these things should be classed as commercial vehicles due to their size and the drivers probably lack the skill to actually drive one safely as it is.

I have that issue, and it is most revealing regarding fatalities of cyclists these days. Hitting an SUV is like smacking a wall head-on. At least cars offer the chance to fly over. Landing is no pleasure, but better than being a bug on a windshield, figuratively speaking.
