Let me clear up what I said earlier. I've never had a motorcyclist give me any attitude no matter what he rides. I was talking about non-riders reaction. People who know nothing about riding seem to think sportsbike are only for insane people and my bike is a sportsbike.
The comment I made about sportsbike guys is only a feeling I get, and not any direct experiance. I notice they drool over each others bikes but not mine.

where I work its mostly harleys (no metric cruisers just harleys). There are a few that also ride sportbikes as well.

I'm a engine development engineer. 1400+ in our manufacturing plant. A bunch of bike nuts (and racers, both car and bike) and just about every variant from dresser Harleys to KLR650s to R1s to goofy old Motoguzzis to serious POS's (the PhDs tend to ride those). They say that gear heads love Triumphs and that would be me, our crankshaft technical lead, and a new guy in Purchasing, of all places.

I get a lot of funny looks at work when I ride, but it's because I'm the only person allowed to ride the bike
inside the aluminum smelter where I work

I actually don't get problems with this, except from crazy donkey know-it-alls at school. As soon as they realize I don't ride an R-1 or an OCC chopper they lose interest.
Everyone else around here who rides will wave/chat at stoplights regardless of bike. It's pretty damn cool.

No matter where I go I get strange looks. Imagine a 5'4" dude on a 81 Goldwing. Now imagine he comes to a stop and has to put his feet down. Usually I am on the balls of my feet.
People think I am insane for having such a tall bike, but I like the feel of my wing.

I used to think the goldwing was the ugliest bike on the planet. Now I'm kinda thinking it's the bike to have if you want to ride across the country - I mean the US. I guess some countries you could just take a scooter

I guess they are making some big scooters these days

I still don't see very many on the interstate though.
