I have reflective material on my helmet, and my First Gear Jacket has reflective stripes. Lights up well at night. I think if you reflectorize (is this a word?) your helmet, you have 90% of what you need to be seen. If your jacket has some reflective areas you should be good to go.

If you are wearing a black helmet and a black jacket with no reflectors, a vest should be on your list of things to wear.

You can also put reflective decals on your helmet. I got ones that look like flames and since they are black on my black helmet they don't show in the daytime, but light up when headlights are on them.

I also have some wide reflective ankle/arm bands.

Around the city here, I notice the bikers who wear reflective vests are much more visible even in the daytime.

I need to get some of that tape for my helmet. It's black.

What's a good kind to look into? I'd want something that matches the helmet during the day, lights up at night, and doesn't get all gooey in wet weather.

A (fellow ) biker in the UK began recently wearing a day-glo yellow bomber-type jacket when he was commuting i.e in heavy traffic; he's commented on the marked difference it has made on cagers blindly pulling out on him. He's pleasantly suprised at the difference he has noticed in stupid manoevres potentially putting him in danger - at first glance, some drivers think he is a policeman on a plain clothes bike, which stalls them and makes them think twice about anything.

They do have that tape in a bunch of different colors, even black...and it still shines up at night. I'll talk to my friend that had the link and ill post it soon. Later.

There's a guy around here that wears the most offensive bright green ever when he's on his bike. Kinda hard to miss him. Though, I usually spot the headlight BEFORE i see his jacket. Even during the day.

Niiiiiice, I'll have to find me a jacket like that. Then I just have to hope somebody doesnt hit me on purpose b/c the green is too offensive. That green will go nicely with me honking the horn whenever I see people pretending only to see open road and not to see me.

Of course, the people around here - you almost have to hit them on the head and they still wont pay more attention to their driving than they will their cell phone.

I've got a vest I wear a night. It's mesh so it doesn't inflate, or cook me in summer. It's got two vertical stripes of green reflective tape on it. No idea where to buy one though, I got mine from Jay, who taught my MSF course. I've seen some bikes that are nearly invisble at night. Wearing all black doesn't help.
