Whats the deal with 2 mufflers on the 599 but not the 919?
a 599 is basically a standard version of a CBR600F4i thats naked, but the CBR only has one muffler?
The 919 has a twin exhaust.

Yes, I'm piping in
I own an '04 919, (900 Hornet). I believe this bike is the natural evolution of the original CB-750 Four. It's extremely smooth and docile at low RPM, and you've got plenty of torque. I can climb any canyon in LA at 2-4,000 rpm. The bike is quite flickable in traffic, and narrow enough. It feels lighter than its weight. Brakes are beautifully powerful and linear.
Snap the throttle at 4,500 in first gear and you have a wheelie. Hold it open in first gear and you 'get' the 0-60 in 2.9 seconds thing. You can embarass a lot of sport bike riders in 'real world' riding. In other words, it's a 40+ MPG ride, with catalyst,(if you ride in CA or Germany). But, you can kick the "O Ring" of any sportbike -- not to mention Ferraris and Lamborghinis -- at stoplights. It's good fun in the twisties, and track days are in your future. An extremely versatile bike,to say the least.
My new girlfriend called my 9r "beautiful" this morning, completely unbidden I might add. The 919 is drop dead gorgeous, in my opinion. I've gotten a lot of compliments on the bike's looks in Hollywood, from a rather diverse group! Bums, hipsters, people in cars. I mostly ride mellow, but I love the performance. It's a bike with two personalities. Not Jeckyll and Hyde but Sinatra and Motorhead. Hope that helps.

There must not be too many good riders in CA then.

"There must not be too many good riders in CA then."
What's that SV-1000? You want to take on SoCal 919 riders in stoplight races, (eg, 1/8 mile drags), or twisties, (eg, technical courses)?
Speak up, lad! We're all trembling in our boots.

Yeah the 919 may make the list for a 3rd bike for me (first being cheap UJM to learn on, second either a 599 or an FZ6).
Just a shame honda stopped making the 599.
If you haven't guessed I like naked bikes.

"Just a shame honda stopped making the 599."
They didn't stop making it, but they stopped importing it to the States. The 599s were made in Italy, and the imbalance in the Euro/Dollar brought that about. Why would they stop making it, they sold over 250,000 in Europe alone?
Then again, how stupid is Honda? They can change from one car to another on the production line in east bufuk, but they can't seem to escape currecy issues with bikes. Whatever, the 599 is a great bike, as is my beloved 919.
Third bike my "O Ring". If you had one you would know.

Update: I took my new girlfriend on the 919 tonight, around the potholed streets of Hollywood. I'd heard that the bike was sensitive to passenger weight, but this was not the case! OK, she weighs maybe 95 pounds, so adjust your preload accordingly.
God-damn, Russian women. Accept no cheap substitutes. They can quote Dostoeyvski and defend you in a knife fight in the same breath. Or throw a chair at the back of your head. Be careful out there.

I ment 3rd bike as in that would be the bike I get after 1. starter bike (im at this stage) 2. something a bit hotter than a starter bike (aka 599 or FZ6), then something like 3. the 919.
The 919 is more of my dream bike at the moment. The one I get when money and riding skill allow.
I love the look of the 919 and think its probably the best looking liter class standard out there. Looks way better than the FZ1 (its a shame, as the FZ6 looks soo much better than the 1, kinda like how the 919 looks better than the 599 though the 599 looks pretty good in the flat black color))
