I have to say I love a thread like this. Everyone here represent! Thanks for all the replies and I think my career as a lone rider (not to be confused with loan rider) is once again assured.
I think I'll still do the bike night from time to time, but I always ride in alone and take off on my own. The heck with the beaner heads.

I used to post on two sportbike forums which initially appeared to have some sanity to them. However, after a period, I realized that the sites were composed of the samo samo immature riders that I like to avoid.
You know the type, legends in their own minds who by dint of owning a high performance motorcycle, must be expert riders (although some had just started riding). Lots of expert talk of various racing techniques (much of it wrong) since they attended a racing school (whooopee).
Upshot was, I dropped the sites and no longer post on them. Happily, I found the TMW site where saner heads prevail. Riders here seem more mature in their riding philosophy and enjoy the total spectrum of the motorcycling experience. You all are the real deal.

Plenty of fun to be had without the audience. I hope everyone has a quiet place to "do the hooligan" without the crowd appeal. It's the best of both worlds, when you can sneak off to a secluded, huge parking lot (like our soccer complex) and do whatever you want until the crowd shows up for soccer.

Funny you should bring that up........
While I'm throwing my

around tonite......
I think that many, maybe most, riders have this someplace in thier make-up to varying degrees. I used to think every rider did, until I got to know some of the folks here at TMW. Now I'm pretty sure that some people actually get on a bike not believeing they are at least some sort of minor Demi-god about to depart on some dangerous beast, yet with complete certainty that they are master of it. Who'da thunk it? That's real bravery to me.
But I bet most riders still have this 'legends in thier own minds'-thing going on. I know I do. I know it in my soul that I am the best rider reading this post. I just
know it like I know how to move my arm or blink my eyes.
The fact that even I know that this isn't true has nothing to do with it. I've had my proverbial azz handed to me enough times in the past to not be aware of that fact.
But I still know everytime I get on a bike, I am the best rider in my scope of perception. It amazes me that someone would ride a motorcycle without this minor mental disorder. Like I said.... Brave folks.
One more random synaps mis-fire... "Best Rider" is defined differently by each rider and is based on an abstract of your own perceptions of your own riding experiances and sensations, mutated with an idealized self-perception concept each of us has of ourselves. Your always the best at riding exactly the way you ride. Maybe that's where the 'God Complex'-thing comes from?????

That was deep.

especially since I thought I was the best rider reading the post.

I am truly humbled by the fast company on this forum. Can it be true? Can there be two best riders at the same time.
This is an earth shattering event, right here in TMW. All the laws of physics have been proved wrong. It is possible for two objects to occupy the same space.

I know of a few others around here who think the same thing...physics don't know what hit it.

I'm right there with you. I've come to the conclusion that I just plain don't like to ride with most people. There are a few here and there, and most likely I would ride with someone from this board. I just like to go do my own thing. I'll admit I do things I shouldn't sometimes, but who doesn't. Have to hit some speed here and there, but the wheelies I leave for the others to pull. Too little control up on one wheel for me to consistently be there.
I'll just keep enjoying my lonely rides.

When you guys get a little, or probably a lot, older, you will privately wonder how it can be that you are still invincible at your advanced age. The older I get, the faster I was.........
