I never used a windshield to recently. My NH came with one.

Minuses:

1. No wind in the face. (I like the wind)
2. Buffeting: My Hondaline Winshield sure shakes me up more than no shield
3. Trucks passing will cause a little fork shake (not a tank slapper, just a little wiggle or two from the air off the truck
4. Somewhat nerdy looking (Though that is mine, some don't look so bad).

Plusses

1. Less bugs on the faceshield, jacket
2. Warmer when it's cold out
3. Less rain pelting you
4. You can leave your faceshield open when riding if you want, as the windshield counts as eye protection (For legal use in NJ, anyway)
5. If you are on the highway and a truck or car gets close to the shoulder and throws up a cloud of sand and debris, the windshield takes the sandblasting and not your jacket, skin, face, helmet

I road with the windshield last year in the early spring, took if off during the summer, put it back late fall. This year, the bugs were bad, so I left it on. I'd rather clean the windshield than my jacket and helmet.

Since windshield are removable, you can put it on of off as needed.

Sometimes they offer more than just wind and rain protection on the highway. I was once barrelling down I-10 in southern NM behind an 18-wheeler, when the truck blew a rear tire. It wasn't just a flat, the thing exploded and I could hear the report clearly over the engine and wind noise. Fortunately, my NC Plexifairing took the beating from several fist-sized chunks of rubber that came flying back. The impact of the rubber destroyed the windshield, but left me untouched. I'm pretty sure that without the windshield, I probably would have been knocked off the bike.
