i went ahead and put in a bottle of "white container" Gumout in my tank and filled it up with gas.
i looked at a few additive bottles closely. this one was the only one that specified "removes varnish" in carbs and lines, ect. the rest of the products had vocabulary in regards to injectors (nothing about the carboratior).
they probably all are the same. luckily, this white bottle was the cheapest. under $2
drove a few miles, seems like the motor is already running better. (i had a sloppy running motor this last week, which i diaganosed as varnish build up)
additives
I recommend using Amsoil Fuel Additive. I guess there are many others out there but I know first hand this brand works well. Today's gasoline does not have the detergents it used to. I am finding many bikes having running problems due to a heavy amount of carbon build-up on the intake valves. Most complaints are a stumble or hesitation during acceleration.
A while back, I had a VTR1000 come into the shop that would not start. I did a leak-down test and found it had 35% leakage coming out of the intake tract!! I thought he had bent a valve somehow. I tear into it and find that the intake valves are not sealing due to heavy carbon.
VTX1800's have this problem often, stumbles and hesitating.
I use the Amsoil everyother oil change on my bikes and autos. Make sure you change your oil after using this kind of additive. The carbon debri will contaminate your oil.
My father races his BMW car at VIR and uses Redline fuel additive. I have heard many on this forum talk about Seafoam, but I have never used it personally. Yamaha's Ring Free works extremely well.
Yamaha also makes Combustion Chamber Cleaner for more intense cleaning. It is a aerosol that is sprayed into the intake tract while running to break up carbon.

Sev, I'd like to see you spend that same amount on Ephedrine or pseudoephedrine (cold or allergy tablets). In Vancouver you would be put on watch pretty quick. The fight against meth cookers is stepping up in this province...Sevulturus wrote:I'll bet you money I could buy $200 to $1000 worth of gasoline additives and no one would even bat an eye, and the cops would not show up at my house.

CORSCO, you say to change the oil after using this addative, how soon after running that through a tank would you do this? just curious is all.CORSCO wrote:I recommend using Amsoil Fuel Additive. Ho ho this is just comedy gold. Seriously.MotoF150 wrote:You guys do know if you do go into a store and purchace any type of gasoline additive ur being staked out and watched by law enforcement officials, or ur face is being recorded on camera for future reference. If ur a good law abiding person you have nothing to worry about, but remember when you buy it big brother is watching you. Why? gasoline additives , mostly gas line anti freeze is a main ingredient in the making of illegal drugs, "meth" meth labs. Where I live everybody is either on drugs or making drugs. Hey like wow man, can you lend me $60, I need a fix man. About a month ago I ran into a guy I went to school with, he was the smartest kid in school, I said "Hi Steve, its been a long time, what are you doing now? Soon I found out that Steve is a burnt out drug addict, he said "Hey Man I need a Fix" I feel sorry for them cause I know they are addicted for life, the only thing they care about is where their next fix is coming from.

I suppose I'm on that list, I go through Marvel Mysery Oil almost every tank in my car and every other tank in my bike. Of course, when I buy five quarts of oil and a filter for every quart of MMO I buy, I'm sure they can just figure out I ride/drive a lot.
I'm quite skeptical about being put on a watch list or being staked out if I purchase $500 of fuel additives from a podunk town's NAPA, with cash.
