I realize that I need to appreciate the power of the bike, I like both the FZ6 and the SV650 for the ride point and also the looks. I also like the fact that suzuki offers a lower cowling as well.

Since the 2000 models, Katana 600s have been showing about 75 hp stock on the dyno (Suz claims 78-80 at the shaft, they used to claim 86, hahaha!). The Ninja 500 is more in the mid to high 50 hp range at the rear wheel. That's a pretty decent differnce. I'd call the 500 a good learner. The Kat's engine has been tuned to be more user friendly than it's sportier brothers, but it can easily be a handful. It revs very quickly into it's powerband and will be much less forgiving that the Ninjas 500 twin.
I could have sworn I saw a dyno for the katana 600 that put it at 60bhp. I am almost positive I saw a Katana 750 dyno at 80bhp. I did have extreme difficulty in finding info on that bike, so I am open to being completely wrong.

The FZ6 has about 95bhp, so think about that bike real hard, its not going to be very newb friendly. I not saying its impossible to learn with, but thats alot of power to screw up with.

Im not saying you shouldnt get it, I just meant it as an outside possibility.
