I always used Mobil-1 (redcap) in everything, but since they changed everything not to long ago I didn't trust what to put in yet so I went with honda 10w40 motorcycle oil on this last change with the rebel. I hope to go back to mobil-1 once i'm sure which one to put in. Not sure what got put into the S50 at the 600 mile service but I imagine it was motorcycle oil. I'm not going to sweat it. i change the oil often enough that anything that doesn't effect the wet clutch will do.

I only use Redline 10w40 now. Best oil really. $13 a quart though, but the difference is worth it.

Shhhh, don't tell my Yamaha the clutch is supposed to slip with Mobil I 15-50 car oil, it's been doing fine for a long time.

I won't tell your Yamaha if you won't tell mine.

I don't think your RD has a filter.... or an oil pump to push the oil thru it. Like I mentioned in the garage section, your bike is one that can comfortably run any old cheap oil, as it has nothing to do with your engine, just your tranny and clutch. And if your clutch is like my old RD's and any other old timey Yammy, it's tougher than cougar snot.
I will also recommend Shell Rotela 10W-40, it's good stuff and helps smooth the shift action a fair bit. Mobile 1 is also a good call. Both these oils are overkill for your needs, but that's not a bad thing......

My vote is for Rotella or Mobil 1 in the proper weight.
