You're about to spend a whole bunch of money and it sounds like you know little about the bike that you're going to be investing in. Are you sure you should be spending that money?
This bike I am buying isn't going to be used for a few weeks while I get used to a smaller cc bike I bought recently. I'm sorry we can't all know everything like you, I'm sorry I forgot you never had a question about anything.

Given a choice, I would take the belt over the shaft if that was the only consideration to making or breaking the deal. They are both reasonably maintenance free. Either system is good.

I dont think Sev was trying to be a jerk, Like me i think he was trying to be helpful, the way he phrased his help kinda ticked people off "somthing that happens to me often" so i understand where he was coming from.
I think he was just tryin to say that you ought to research this new bike you are lookin at getting to make a accurate decision.
I know for myself when i was deciding on a second bike i was trying to decide between a SV650 and a 599, and based on what i read about both bikes, the pros and cons of each i made my descision.
fairly certain he was just offering some helpful advise

Now for the direct answer. Dont sweat it. Belt drive will be just fine. Its less maintainance than a chain and just as smooth as a shaft drive.
The smoothness of the belt drive is the reason why it is so popular on cruisers.
And enjoy your new bike.
