But I really want a sporty looking bike... Embarassed you know what I mean? I want to show off to my friends!
I think you're getting a bike for the wrong reason but, hey. What you do isn't my concern.

Like he said the Ninjas are pretty sporty looking. A V-Strom is very nice looking as well. SV650s are my personal favorites though, especially nekkid (but yet still with the windshield on, just the fairings off. Would that be half-naked?)

Thanks in advance
If your friends dont have bikes then any bike is innately cool, if your friends do have bikes then they should appreciate the risk involved with a 600cc sportsbike as a first bike or they are not all that concerned by you taking unneeded risks.

If the later case I'd be inclined to get new friends.

the Suzuki GS500F is a pretty sweet looking ride and is well suited to a first time rider looking for a sportbike. And it will be faster than you expect it to be. The ninja 500 is also a good choice, though the GS500 has a bit fresher styling.

Get the Ninja 250, you wont find a sportier looking bike to learn on! Your friends wont know the difference.

If your bike choice is going to be based on what your friends think of it, I'd do some growing up before buying a bike! Your friends wont be too impressed when you're falling off the nice bike you can't control.

PS Plus the Ninja 250 is cheap so you can practice without worrying about damaging it.
