If you have problems just rent a scooter like somebody said. It would still be fun. I enjoy riding them still even while having a fast bike. Especially since you have no experience you would only be cruising anyways. Just take a pic of a nice motorcycle there, and tell all your friends that's what you rode around on!

Dirtytoes wrote:hey there,
i'm not a pro, i've only been riding for almost a full month.

as far as australian laws go, i don't know anything.....but i don't think you should buy/rent a bike for 2 weeks for the following reasons:
1. you don't know the roads there........for example i went on a 2 hour ride to van nuys today(for the 1st time), it was horrible, there were SO MANY holes in the ground.
2. you've never ridden before.
3. you have to put alot of money down to rent the bike and if anything happens to the bike, you're money is gone.
4. if they have MSF courses which they should, chances are that they are full and there is a 4 week waiting list.

What type of bike were you planning on renting? cruisuer...sports bike...scooter?

like i said though i'm a new rider.....maybe some of the pros here could give you a little more info.

..hope this helped
I am from Australia... where I am the waiting list is more like 3-6 Months for the Pre-Learner course (before you can even get a learners permit). Then about 6-9 months for the restricted licence course. :frusty:

I am currently lobbing the government to get it changed, there is only one training provider in the whole state (South Australia) and it is run by the government.

Go for the scooter (50CC max) and you can use your normal car licence.

I have lots of envy for you guys/gals in the US...
