The 30-30 was pretty lousy with factory loads. Had some hand loads for it that made it shoot a lot flatter and more predictably. The 30-30 doesn't like hot loads but lighter loads. the powder charge was 29 grains of IMR 4064 shooting a 150gr flat nose sierra. Tried 30 and 31 grains of powder charge but that just gave it less accuracy and more recoil. The 4064 powder is fairly slow burning so you can run lighter powder charges and still produce good velocity, but get less recoil and better accuracy.
Yes I am pretty picky about what I shoot out of my guns, but I also used to shoot in competition.
