dont ever buy anything to wear that you cant try on.not much of a savings to get something that you cant wear then have to go pay retail for something you can.

Never. I've bought all 8 of the helmets I've owned locally. I've got a fat face and big ears and I want a helmet that's comfortable all day. When I find one of the type that I want that feels good, I'll wear it around the store for a half hour before I'll buy it. Sometimes I'll have them get another helmet out of stock of same kind, size, and color to try. Everyone is different.
Today's full face helmets are so heavily padded in the cheek and chin areas that it's hard for a guy with chubby cheeks to find one that I can put on and open and close my mouth without biting the insides of my cheeks. I was looking for a full face helmet last year to replace a banged up Symax flip face that was involved in a bike totalling in 03. Found a RF1000 that felt very good for awhile and was about to buy it when I decided to take out the cheek pads and try it. It was too big, could move it about on my head. Got a size smaller that fit tight without the cheek pads and went home and cut down the padding thickness in the cheek pads, it's been fine since. Added a CL-Max flip this summer when it was very hot so I could open it when stuck in heavy traffic.
Can't imagine getting a mail order helmet that would suit us all; me, my ears, my chubby cheeks, and my eye glasses.
