Is the phoenix the totally mesh one? That would be very cool! I've seen one in the shop that's all mesh with armour..if that's the one. I got the atomic 2.0..it's much lighter and cooler than my leather...both are vented the same, except for sleeve vents in the atomic. When you stop... it's pretty much a crap shoot on which one's cooler after a long stop. So I just don't make long stops.

phoenix has solid armor on the elbows, shoulders, "O Ring", and knees. Other than that, it's all mesh.

I'd trust it to keep me safe, but I'd never wear it. I lack the body fat and warm weather up here.

Sounds a little underprotected to me. The armor will help you out in all those places, but what if you are sliding on a are without it. Mesh will not last long. I assume there is a back armor too, even though you didn't list it. I would really hope so at lest.
If you went down on your chest you'd be screwed. On your sides you'd be screwed, espeically in the legs.

Most of the mesh stuff that I've seen has some back and chest armor.

Mine does, Wrist to elbow, Elbows, shoulders, middle back and lower back and a hump at the neck. Don't know about the road rash, but then I'll never find out.
