Anyone with a scanner, computer and printer could scan and then manipulate where and when you were born and make a new copy. That is probably why they need the original.

My birth certificate is an old yellowed piece of paper that anyone could carry into an office and say it was theirs. How would that prove that they were or weren't the person mentioned on the certificate? Picture ID supplied by the DMV should be sufficient for the purpose.

The thing about the DMV is... I alone should be able to choose who drives and who doesn't, and I should be able to revoke a license from anyone at any time for any reason. That's how it should work.
