The way the pistons fit is just cause they are different calipers. Front calipers are bigger, beefier units to take the strain, so the design differences will be many.
If the number of pistons and thier diameter is the same, then the piston in the master cylinders will be different diameters in order to exert different pressures. But number of pistons per caliper factors in huge, too.
