The way the pistons fit is just cause they are different calipers. Front calipers are bigger, beefier units to take the strain, so the design differences will be many.

If the number of pistons and thier diameter is the same, then the piston in the master cylinders will be different diameters in order to exert different pressures. But number of pistons per caliper factors in huge, too.

That was kind of my guess too. each caliper has exactly one piston, and both front and rear pistons are the same size.(height and dia.)

I was just concerned that the rear piston would have to travel more to engage the rotor. But I guess thats the point after all.

your rear brake pedal gets alot more force on it than your front brake lever - might have something to do w/ the design differences.
